2. Lithium ion battery structure and materials

The global lithium battery market grew from 84 billion yuan in 2011 to 175.5 billion yuan in 2015, with an average annual compound growth rate of 20.2%. The global lithium ion battery market has maintained a steady growth trend. China, Japan and South Korea now make about 95% of the world's lithium-ion batteries, and China's production is growing fast and its market share is steadily rising.At present, lithium ion battery is mainly used in small intelligent products, such as smart phones, smart watches, etc., in the future, the lithium ion battery will be applied to large smart devices, such as the electric car, robot, intelligent household facilities, etc., these large equipment need more lithium ion battery, larger market will drive the lithium ion battery industry development, the huge demand for lithium ion batteries will be exponentially.The next 5 to 10 years will be a glorious period for the lithium ion battery industry.

4. Current development level of lithium ion batteries

The operating voltage of single lithium ion batteries is as high as 3.7-3.8v (3.2v for lithium iron phosphate), which is three times that of nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium batteries.The energy density of commercial products has reached above 150 mAh/g, which is close to about 88% of its theoretical value, and the power density has reached about 160 Wh/Kg (2-3 times as much as nimh battery, 3-4 times as much as nickel-cadmium battery).The average cycle life can reach more than 500 times, even more than 1000 times, lithium iron phosphate materials can reach more than 2000 times.

5. Technology trends

At present, lithium ion batteries have three trends in terms of technology development :(1) development and use of new high-performance electrode materials;(2) developing large-capacity lithium-ion power batteries for electric vehicles;(3) further reduce the cost of lithium ion batteries and improve their safety performance.
